The process for an initial evaluation at The Cocoon Clinic involves an assessment of speech and language skills and cognitive-communication skills. Based on the results of the evaluation, a personalized treatment plan will be developed.

The frequency of therapy sessions at The Cocoon Clinic will depend on the individual's specific needs and treatment plan. Typically, therapy sessions are scheduled once or twice a week.

At The Cocoon, we treat children from infancy to adolescence. If you are concerned about your child’s communication skills, don't hesitate to reach out to set-up an evaluation.

Early intervention is crucial because it capitalizes on the brain's plasticity during the critical developmental period, enhances communication skills, boosts social and academic success, and improves a child's overall quality of life. Early identification and intervention provide the best opportunity for positive outcomes and can make a significant difference in a child's future development and well-being.

Communication disorders can manifest in various ways and may affect a child's ability to express themselves, understand language, or interact with others. Early identification and intervention are crucial for addressing these issues effectively. Here are some warning signs of a communication disorder in a child:

1. Speech Delays: The child is not reaching typical speech milestones for their age. For example, they may not babble by 6 months, say their first words by 12 months, or form simple sentences by 2 years old.
2. Limited Vocabulary: The child has a limited vocabulary compared to other children their age and struggles to learn new words.
3. Difficulty Pronouncing Sounds: Persistent difficulties in pronouncing sounds, leading to speech that is difficult to understand.
4. Receptive Language Issues: Difficulty understanding or following instructions, questions, or conversations appropriate for their age.
5. Expressive Language Issues: Trouble expressing thoughts, needs, or desires verbally. They may resort to gestures, pointing, or grunting instead of using words.
6. Lack of Eye Contact: Avoiding eye contact during interactions, which can hinder communication and social development.
7. Limited Social Interaction: Difficulty engaging with peers or adults in conversation or play, preferring to be alone.

The Cocoon accepts Alliant Health and Health One insurance plans. Otherwise, we are primarily private pay only  at this time. This means that payment is only accepted via cash, check, or card. 

If requested, The Cocoon will provide you with a Superbill. Superbills can be submitted to insurance companies in attempts to receive some level of reimbursement directly to you; however, not all insurances accept superbills. It is your responsibility to call and verify with your insurance if superbills are accepted.
